Principal's Message

Windy Ridge Families-
My first week at Windy Ridge with students was better than I could have imagined. I was able to stop into several classrooms and see our students learning already. We were able to cut back on our dismissal time significantly by Friday, and we are still evaluating. Thank you to all of our families for your patience. Just a reminder, our students will not be out at car rider until 2:55 for our K-1 kiddos and 3:00-3:05 for grades 2-5.

There is a lot going on at the Ridge this week, please take a look through our entire newsletter.

Rainy Day Dismissal

On the off chance that there is severe weather in the area at dismissal, we will follow this procedure:
  • Families will receive a Parent Square notice of a "Delayed Dismissal".
  • During Delayed dismissals, we are not permitted to let the students leave, unless they are accompanied by an approved family/friend member as indicated in skyward.
  • If you choose to come to the school, we will process all families through the cafeteria.
  • You will first check in with someone that will arrange for your child to pack up and walk down.
  • From that station, you will need to have your ID verified to ensure that you have permission to pick up any and all students that you are requesting.
  • After your ID is verified, you will wait in the main hallway for your student(s) to arrive and you can leave through the main doors.
  • We will not be able to release any students to an adult that does not have ID. This is a safety concern.
  • You must be approved in Skyward to pick up any student that you are not personally responsible for. Please make sure that you complete the form that will go home on the first day. Any contacts that you added in the past will remain in the system.

Student Services

Schedule Adjustments

Middle School Families- We are reviewing all requests for schedule changes. At this time, we are not taking more requests. If your request was entered, and we are able to complete the request, it will be done this week.

Elementary School Families- Windy Ridge has seen an increase in enrollment, which we are excited about. For this reason, we may be hiring additional teachers at certain grade levels. If this happens, we will be sending out our procedures for balancing classrooms. We know that transitions can be difficult, but we are very confident in our grade-level teams ability to collaborate and support each other. While each teacher has their own personal style, the curriculum is identical.

Community Connect Available

OCPS has connected with Community Connect to provide families with free or reduced cost resources. Here is the link:

Discipline

Welcome to a fantastic school year! One of our top priorities is maintaining a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment where every student can succeed.
To help our campus run smoothly, we follow the Orange County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct. The link to the Code of Student Conduct is on the front page of the OCPS website at ocps.net. We ask for your partnership in reinforcing a few key expectations at home:

  • Respect & Kindness: Treating peers and staff with courtesy and civility at all times.
  • Punctuality: Arriving at class on time every day, ready to learn.
  • Preparedness: Bringing necessary materials and charged devices to school daily.
  • Safety First: Following campus guidelines so every student feels secure and supported.
Thank you for your partnership in making our school community a great place to grow and learn!

We will be updating this with our concerts and performances throughout the year.

Over the summer, many of our Silverhawks found their reading joy and participated in the Beanstack Summer Reading Challenge! 📖✨ Please join us in congratulating our July Top 10 Readers! 🏆🎉
I am so proud of our Silverhawks for continuing to read, explore new books, and make reading part of their summer! Way to go, readers! 🌟

📚💻 Week 2 in the Media Center!

It’s a busy week in the Media Center! We’re wrapping up laptop checkout with 2nd grade, which means all students will have a digital device to use on campus! 🎉 Our K–1 students have iPads, and 2nd–8th grade students have laptops. Soon, classrooms in grades 2–8 will also receive class sets of iPads.

📖 Beginning Wednesday, our middle school library orientations kick off, and students will get to check out books for the first time this school year! I’m so excited to welcome our Silverhawks back to the library! Elementary book checkout will begin soon, too. Until then, students can enjoy Sora eBooks and their classroom libraries. 📚✨

This year, the library is in need of additional copies of the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books (SSYRA). If you would like to donate a gently used copy that your student read over the summer or purchase one from our Amazon Wish List, the book will be well-read by our Silverhawks.

Here’s to another great week of technology, books, and learning!
